It’s a lonely and scary feeling, isn’t it Penelope Maclachlan? I must admit my husband understands a lot more than he used to and can me by the hand at times. Other times, I think he may get annoyed because those of us who suffer can suffer for months without a break and it’s hard for those who love us to see it daily, let alone know what to do or say.
As for Psychiatrists, I must say, I’ve had good luck in that area. Counseling, not so much. I envy others who tell me their counselor helped them to gain their life back and they’ve been living anxiety free for some time. Maybe it just depends on the severity of the illness because there is anxiety disorder and then generalized anxiety disorder which tends to want to hang around on a very frequent basis unlike those who are prone to anxiety disorder which comes and goes and can stay away for a long time. It sounds like you need to find another Psychiatrist, the 2 I’ve had over the past 20 years listen, ask a lot of questions and also explain so much to me about the brain, it’s chemistry and the conductivity of our neural pathways. They have asked me about certain medications but they do not push them on me. I had genomic testing done since I can’t seem to tolerate SSRI’s or SNRI’s and it validated what I had been saying- my brain can’t tolerate them for some reason.
I wish you well and I hope you can find a Dr. that really cares!!
