Hi Johan Deecke,

Thank you for your valuable contribution on this topic.

I appreciate the value you added by sharing your experience and knowledge.

I find it a bit sad that you became a bit defensive about my “fairy dust” comment and Science in general.

We’ve all had differing experiences- I’ve had people prey on me who are not even trained in Mental Health, they gain their “so called knowledge” via others and online. Then, they present themselves as glorified counselors who have all the answers. They write articles and gain new clients because the “claim” to have the magical fairy dust that will help a person to “over come” the illness. Maybe I should have been a bit more precise when I spoke of Fairy dust, but it would have meant I needed to follow up on some who I won’t call out in an open forum.

As for “telling others to be positive,” that was a general comment with regards to others who mean well or are possibly annoyed at the person who suffers because they don’t understand Mental Illness.

I have written articles in the past which do focus on therapies which have been helpful, one being EMDR and yes, positive affirmations. I’m sorry my article struck a sour note with you but I do appreciate your input. Sharing what you’ve learned along with others sharing what they’ve learned and know to work for them is always helpful to anyone suffering from Mental Health issues. It helps that you have studied what you are referring to and have data to back it up, not the type of fairy dust I was speaking of.
