Does Societal Peer Pressure Affect Women During Mid-Life?

Today’s trends seem to be furthering with regards to women feeling the pressure to ‘look’ younger. I have to wonder just how many women feel an intense NEED to buy anti-aging products, botox, plastic surgery, dieting, working out 5 days per week, and on the list goes?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with trying to stay healthy by means of exercise and eating, but if your doing it for reasons other than health- you may have a problem. I’m not insinuating that a woman shouldn’t try to look her best, but that shouldn’t be what defines a woman’s persona.

I can admit openly that the pressure to look younger sucked me in about ten years ago. As if we don’t have enough stress in life; seeing all the ‘perfect’ looking women my age or close to my age on TV has added a lot of pressure that I wasn’t even aware of until I began to listen to Terry Thatcher talk on The Oprah Show (in 2010), about the added stresses of what I would classify as competition to look younger with regards to aging. Terry Thatcher has not had plastic surgery, or other procedures, and took a few pictures along with home video’s of herself without her makeup. First of all, you go girl! It’s wonderful to see a celebrity show us what she honestly looks like without her makeup, and THAT would be like most of us; not too bad! Terry Thatcher looked REAL. She also…
